Yoga Therapy : a Psoas workshop
With Sandra Carson
The psoas muscle is a major player in our body, with many jobs. It acts as a stabilizer between the lower and the upper body, it moves the legs and creates flexion in the hips. For yoga practitioners, a healthy psoas muscle has a tremendously positive effect on forward bends, backbends and twists. Besides the physical benefits of a healthy psoas, this hip flexor also has a powerful influence on our ability to relax and feel good. The psoas is responsible for many functions, and tightness is very common, even in active people. It can lead to problems ranging from back pain to knee and ankle issues as well as stress. Body workers and yoga teachers are starting to get more familiar with the workings of this important deep hip flexor. In the workshop, you will learn through easy exercises how to access your psoas and make it a healthy, strong and lean companion!
The workshop is accessible to students of all levels, and can be of particular interest to yoga teachers wanting to learn more about the effect of the psoas in yoga.
You will learn:
- how to locate your psoas and determine its effect on your posture;
- about the effect of the psoas on all levels of being: physiological, emotional and energetic;
- how to release the psoas;
- how to strengthen and lengthen the psoas.
This Yoga Therapy workshop is based on the Anusara Yoga method, Anatomy Trains and the work of Liz Koch.

About Sandra Carson
In 1998, while living in Toronto, Sandra took up Yoga for the first time. She started a practice that still inspires her today. She has travelled and taught yoga internationally for over 12 years. Her moves have brought her to Canada, the USA, England and back to the Netherlands. It was during this travelling time that she discovered and explored the practice of yoga and became a Yoga Alliance certified teacher (E-ryt500) in the USA in 2001. In 2010 Sandra became an Anusara Inspired Yoga teacher.
During more than seven years of dedicated study of Anusara yoga, she developed her love and knowledge of Yoga Therapy, experiencing directly how Yoga can help people align and become empowered in cultivating good health. Besides its healing aspects on the physical level, Sandra is fascinated by the way our yoga practice shapes our thinking, feeling and behaving off the mat. Yoga helps us to create healthy relationships with ourselves and the people we love, and to find ways of facing challenges in everyday life.
This workshop is fully booked.
